Slim Devices Squeezebox for Christmas
« on: December 16, 2005, 06:00:30 am »

I have good reason to beleive that I'm getting a Squeezebox for Christmas (maybe even 2).  Anything I should do with MC or my files to prepare for this event? :) :)

AFAIK the Squeezebox is not a UPnP device, so I don't see how you could use it with MC.

Yeah, unfortunately it doesn't currently work directly with MC.  I have one, so I use both MC and SlimServer.  However, they share the same files (mostly FLAC here).

I wish they worked better together (well, so that I only needed MC :) ), but it's not bad having both.  SlimServer is only for streaming and doesn't do tagging or organization, while MC does tagging and organization and doesn't (for Squeezebox) do streaming.

About 80% of my files are MP3 with the balance being iTunes.  Will SlimServer handle that?

The Slimserver will handle all your files.

Both work with your music files but there is no other connection between them.  I would love to get my Squeezebox to support my MC smartlists :D

Anyway, enjoy the Squeezebox, it's a great device.

My advice is be good. Or else you may end up trying to stream your music through a lump of coal.

[Sorry - couldnt resist :)]

I'm looking for some portability, what would be a good portable speaker to play through.

I use both and they work together fine.  However, I am paranoid, so I allow MC read/write access to the music folders, whereas SlimServer only has read access.

Note (I am sure you won't make the same mistake as me) that you HAVE to write the library information back to the file tags so that SlimServer can pick them up.

Second note - multi CD sets are not picked up properly.  There's a lot of discussion on the SlimServer forum about this.

Update Tags (from library)?
