Linux is for Technical Oriented Engineers ....

Microsoft is for Functional Oriented Users ....

I am part of the second breed, so I will stick to Microsoft.

For the same reason I do not use Open Source applications.
There is always something wrong with it, and it takes a lot of technical hassle to get things as you wish.

 

Macintosh is for Delusional Oriented Geeks ....

I've got plenty of friends who are wild-eyed, foaming-at-the-mouth MacFaithful.  To them, still stuck in 1985 when Apple had something truly revolutionary to offer, everything about the Mac is night vs day when compared to ANY pc.  You mention software, and they will shout themselves hoarse claiming that the 5 or 6 currently produced applications for the Mac can do everything a PC can.  And don't even bother trying to explain that Photoshop, etc is now available on PC.  These guys don't want to hear it, won't accept it, can't take the uncomfortable truth.

And yet when I read your posts suggesting that MC should go to linux, I wonder if you aren't just a little bit of the New Faith.  I mean, I can see a lot of potential in linux, and the guys who built it deserve a lot of appreciation for their work, but how can you compare it to windows?  Even if everything worked as well as windows, what software is there for it and what kind of user base is there? 

I think the biggest factor in my frustration with trying suse linux is that everyone was talking about it like it was done and perfect.  But it isn't even usable unless it's pre-configured, or you know what you're doing, as I'm sure you do.  Okay, so you use it, but will it ever be appropriate for anyone beyond SysAds, programmers and the New Faithful?

If i had the cash to blow, I would go Mac. However, I would still suffer the occasional withdrawl when faced with not having access to a few programs that are Windows exclusive.

I used to swear against ever using a Mac, but that was before I had actually used one. After being forced, for nearly 4 months, to use one for Photoshop, Dreamweaver, and Flash, I must say I came to love the efficient little beasts.

That said, I know that would run into too many issues with favorite software not having a Mac port, so I stick with a PC.

The new MacIntels may break new ground in the near future. New doors may open. We shall see.

Funny how that reminds me of a director I used to provide support to.
He had a shiny new Mac, wide screen, etc. I always ordered the latest gadgets for him and others in the executive suite. His Mac would sit happily waiting on him to finish his work. Which was all done via a Windows machine.

Played great videos though.

Mac OSX is deffinetly the best OS in terms of interface.   I wish it was the #1 OS.  Can't wait to see the new Apptels.

..it still isn't enough, i mean why bother to switch in that case..it took nearly forever to get things working just the way you like and then some.

No, there has to be more.

It's the niche areas that other platforms specialise in. You're lucky if it's same the niche you're interested in. Apple moving to Intel is interesting, Linux was easy to pickup since you could run it on the same machine as windows.

And at that point you saw the apps you needed were not there yet, but to a certain extent are present for the mac.
