MC 10 versus MC11
« on: January 09, 2006, 08:20:06 am »

I'm just busy trying out the 30-day test version of MC11. As MC11 costs more than double MC10 I can't help wondering if the extra $$$ for MC11 are well spent. The differences seem minimal on the features list.

Would any users who know both versions well like to comment?

Thanks for your opinions

Why not try out version 10 too, and that way you'll know which version best suites you!  :)

I think you'll find some of the new features of 11 much better, it's much more refined.

The integrated album view is a good example.
11 is also alot better with regards to portable devices such as Ipods and Creative
Zens.

Which version of 11 did you try?
You'll find 11.1 has quite a few improvements over 11.0
If you decide your happy with 10.0 It's always possible to upgrade it to
version 11 and you end up paying the same amount.

I think you'll find the dollars well spent regardless of which version you go for.  It's a very
extensive program, with a really good development team.
If you have a problem someone will generally help solve them here.

Thanks Mr C

I did want to try both but couldn't find MC10 as a tryout. In the meantime, I found it. I did read though that you shouldn't install both versions on one machine. Maybe I'll have to de-install 11 to try 10?

From what I've seen of MC so far, I would agree that it seems good value for the buck. I'd never heard of it before a couple of days ago when I found it with Google. After 4 emails to Musicmatch asking them how to renew my subscription which had run out and not a single word in reply, I decided it was time to junk MM and look for something better. Glad I did !  ;D

It's good and bad.  IT means that JRiver is constantly improving the product.  It's bad because each new version i.e. 11 - 12 will be so radically different/better that it will take a year to work out all the kinks.

I would almost prefer a 11.0 - 11.4 license.  11.5 - 11.9 would take a new license.  Upgrades would be 10 bucks each time or maybe 25 - 30 if you wait a cycle.  I think this would be beneficial to them since they get more money more often, and beneficial to us since major upgrades do not have to be made to convince us to buy, thus eliminating the year long bug removal process after a major upgrade and instead a stable build is built after each 11.X release.  It seem like that's where it is moving to, hopefully.

I just don't want to wait another year and a half till a stable build of MC 12 is released.  6 months from now would be great with just a few major improvements.
