Feature Suggestions - Album Playback
« on: January 30, 2006, 12:11:48 pm »

Hi,

Just a thought on a new feature.

One thing that annoys me when listening to music is cross-fade between tracks when the CD didn't have it.

ok, So I know you can turn it off, but if you are doing a randomise (for a party) you need constant playback and one track needs to blend into another cause you don't know how the two tracks end...  hence the need for cross fade

Perhaps you could add a rule that if playing sequential tracks of the same album you can have another "switch-tracks" option which could be set to gapless playback.

i.e. if random, crossfade between tracks
if playing album in order, gapless playback.

Create a new playback zone and rename it to "Party shuffle" or whatever and edit its playback settings as you like, its helpfull too as it saves its playing now list

yeah, fair enough. I have that already, but I don't really want to have to change the playback zone all the time. It'd be better if the track change method was more "intelligent"...

I totally agree with you Rich.

This has been bugging me since it was called media jukebox. Every time I try a new version, I end up thinking 'What?!?? I can't beleive these guys have still not fixed this.'

I reckon that the crossfade is one of the best features of MC, but it pisses me off so much when every track on an album starts too soon, that it usually ends up being turned off.

If I don't see the 'Use gapless crossfade for consecutive album tracks' option soon, I'm going to start searching for another player.

Perhaps it would not be so annoying if I could imagine it to be a difficult feature to implement, but really, how hard could it be? I mean, there is already an alternate setting which activates when you press a key or something. By the time someone finishes reading this, they could probably already have coded 'Use alternate crossfade settings for consecutive album tracks'. It's not rocket science is it? (That's what my project manager always used to say when he had no idea anyway, but when you stop and think about it, he's right.)

This has been requested so either it is not at the top of the priority list or it is more difficult than we think.

I'm sure JRiver would like to make this happen, I can't imagine why not.

Thanks for the link datdude, but I didn't find any answers there either.

Could someone from JRiver please enlighten us on when (if) we can expect this to be implemented? - If I'm gunna have to find an alternative, I might as well start looking now.

It would also be good to know of any expected difficulties relating to adding an option which causes the alternate crossfade to activate when playing consecutive tracks from the same album, to save anyone attempting to write a plugin or something to add this feature from wasting their time.

Thanks, nonmomo

basically the link was to show that it probably isn't going to happen immediately.  I would hope MC 12, if not then it probably aint gonna happen

Think I requested this at somepoint to!
Listening to albums I want gapless, changing to a totally different album,
I'd like a fade. Don't think it's quite worth changing your player for however
Nonmomo! Media Center has so much more than crossfades!

Remember there are also a million different implementable things that aren't
rocket science but would be probably useful.
(I'm convinced the built in coffee maker must be almost finished).
