Here is the current list of bugs/glitches (at least as seen on my system):

1.  Forward/Back Track BUG:  Hitting the "next track" or "previous track" button while a .dts file is playing causes MC 11.1 to hang.  ctrl-alt-delete needed to kill MC and restart.

2.  Last 10s BUG:  When MC gets near to the end of the .dts file, the player craps out with an error message about not being able to find the file.

I can not reproduce these.

3.  Web server BUG:  using a remote machine to access the port 80 MC server via a browser.  Select a .dts song.  MC crashes on the server machine.

I will do some testing.

4.  Directshow filter REQUEST:  please make selecting and configuring directshow filters and renderers to be used by MC playback for audio and video files selectable by the end user.

I am thinking of doing something in this respect. Probably for v12.

I am not enough of a software person to argue with you....But on the issues of buffers and the last 10s of the song, how the data is handed off from MC to the audio filter to ASIO4ALL to the SPDIF port might be significant.

I guess I could try and hook up the analog outputs of my sound card to try this and see if it makes a difference in analog out mode vice the SPDIF outptu.

My computer is not connected to a digital receiver. However, I did try switching AC3Filter's SPDIF output option on, and played in MC. The result was, of course, noise. But it kept playing the noise without any glitches. Switching tracks worked as expected. Nothing bad happened in the last 10 seconds either.

How about trying to get a log file? Also try changing the amount of buffering in Options.

I have not been able to reproduce the crash on the server. However there was a bug in the Library Server which prevented the dts/ac3 files from been streamed. The server bug was fixed in the latest build. On the client side, unfortunately, dts/ac3 streamed from the Library Server still would not play because the DTS/AC3 Source filter does not handle streaming. That is out of our control. If someone knows of any source filter for these file types that can handle stream please let me know.

Actually, is it necessary to always "stream" the files? On a LAN the server could just provide direct HD file access for the clients. That could be an optional mode.

So here are some more log files.  Using 11.1.119 beta.  Playing .dts files ripped from a DVD Video disk.  Results have been the same for the last few builds.  I play the .dts file and when it gets to the end (last few seconds of .dts file/song) I get the error message dialog box popup, "MC encountered errors whilte trying to play the last several files.  Please make sure....<OK>".

SPDIF output to my digital receiver for decoding is my hardware config.  Using M-Audio Revo 7.1 with ASIO4ALL 2.26 Kernel streaming to ASIO mapper.  MC configured for ASIO output.

My setup is somewhat complicated.  Three machines are involved on a gigabit ethernet LAN. 

1.  A Windows XP machine acting as a file server.  It does not have MC installed on it.  Merely its harddisks are shared on the LAN.  My MP3, dts, divx, etc files are here.

2.  Another windows XP machine with MC 11.1 installed.  It has a drive letter created pointing at the shared drives on the file server #1 above with the media files.  This machine has the audio card and SPDIF out connected to my home theater audio systems.

3.  The last windows XP machine with a web browser.  I point the web browser at the MC 11.1 machine to control it and play music.  When I select the .dts tracks from the browser, the MC 11.1 application crashes on the machine 2 above.

Why do I do all this?  The file server (#1) is headless (no display), is large and loud with fans and lots of hard disks.  It is not located in the same room where my theater is.  The machine with MC11.1 installed (#2) is my hometheater PC.  It is normally used as a headless machine since it is connected to a projector that is usally turned off unless I am watching a movie.  Machine #3 is my general purpose internet surfing machine that is always turned on and available for use.

Somehow DirectShow refuses to build a graph for the second and subsequent tracks.

Would this happen if you do not try crossfading or gapless play? The only thing I can think of is that possibly "Sonic Cinemaster® DS Audio Decoder" does not allow a second instance before the first is completely released.

As you will note earlier in this thread, I have tried a few different audio filters.  Some don't work at all (no sound) others exhibit the same last few seconds crash problem:

just downloaded and installed the 2/3/2006 build.  The older build on my computer did not support dts.

With FFDShow I get the exact same error at the end of the file if I am setup in MC to use ASIO output and the ASIO2ALL KS to ASIO mapper to my SPDIF output to my receiver.

However, if I use FFDShow to decode the DTS and the MC to directshow out (instead of ASIO), and I set my PC sound card for analog output (instead of SPDIF)....then I can play the files WITHOUT the end of file error. 

At least with my machine, SPDIF output for dts does not work.  You guys should really try and get a test setup where you can adequately test this mode.

I really appreciate your efforts to work thru this problem. 

I know that .dts playback via directshow filters via SPDIF is likely a problem that impacts a very small fraction of MC users.  Also, the fix will likely involve config changes to ASIO, kernel streaming wrappers, directshow filters, etc software that is not jriver but just happens to be installed on our end user systems.

Your and jriver's continuing efforts on working these and other items is a welcome and appreciated thing.

I asked this question before but nobody seemed to know the answer.  Is there a way to change the sound card used to output AC3 files?  It seems to play to the sound card defined as the "default" in Windows.  I can play these files in WMP and change the output to another card by altering the "Speakers" setting.

This sounds promising.  I will give it a try.  But are you referring to CD-DTS or DVD-DTS tracks?  My CD-DTS rips are playing fine in MC.  I tend to rip the CD-DTS to WMA lossless.  I am just having trouble with the DVD-DTS tracks.

EDIT:  I think that you must be referring to CD-DTS.  Although I just tried, I don't believe MC can rip a DVD audio track due to DVD encryption.  If there is someway for MC to rip a DVD DTS audio track I would be happy to try it.

Just for completeness I should mention....My M-Audio Revo 7.1 does not support SPDIF output via ASIO (silly M-Audio driver problem).  Hence I have to use ASIO4ALL.  Leaving me with the following audio path:

MC11.1 -> directshow filters -> ASIO4ALL -> Kernel Streaming Revo Driver -> SPDIF output -> exteral DD/DTS decoder receiver

Well in an attempt to correct crashing problems I am still having with playback of .dts files, I deleted and did a re-import of all my media into a clean new default libarary.

I am finding that my .dts files extracted from DVD's are not importing.  Even when I go directly to the directory where the files are located I cannot get MC 11.1 to "import media..." the .dts files.  Also, I have .wav files that were originally extracted from a DAD disk (digital audio dvd) disk that are not being imported either.

1.  AC3 Filter, FFDShow, plus some of the commercial ones that I have tried and posted about in this thread.

2.  You have to play with the directshow merit system to weight the one you want to get used in MC since MC has no way of selecting the correct one.  (Selection of filters in MC is a feature request that I have made for the future releases of MC).

3.  AC3 Filter and FFDShow have control panels that can be used to select SPDIF output mode.  Some of the commercial filters also have such panels that come up when playing a DVD or in some cases there are registery settings that are poorly documented that can be set to force SPDIF output.

What is the next step on my part or jriver's part to work towards a fix?  Anyway else out there in MC land trying to play .dts or .pcm files ripped from DVD's and having problems with playback over SPDIF??

using version 11.1.143 now.  Still having the same problems of the .dts files dieing in the last few seconds of playback for each track.

I did get the .dts files to be imported to the library finaly.  Seems that the tags get zeroed out when the .dts files drop out of the library for whatever reason and have to be reentered manually.

Basically the link above goes into great detail on the challenges of dealing with getting a DVD-DTS (or AC3) bit stream and getting it into a proper IEC61937 format for playback.  It sure would be great if MC 11.1 could implement some of the SPDIF conversion processing that is described in the referenced link.  Getting a DVD-DTS or DVD-AC3 audio file into a format that looks and plays like a CD-DTS file would solve all of these problems. 

The link does highlight that there is a tremendous difference between just getting DTS out of analog sound card outputs vs SPDIF.  Something I have been beating the drum about here for some time.

EDIT:  Just an update.  I did install windows python so that I could run the python script in the above link.  It does convert my .dts file to a .dts.wav file that plays fine thru MC 11.1 out the SPDIF port to my external decoder.  So it is possible for all this to work.  How do I get a .py (pypthon script file) to be accessable under MC 11.1 external encoder in the encoder config dialog box for file conversion?  It seems to only except .exe files.
