Exporting library as XML (11.1)
« on: January 24, 2006, 07:52:42 am »

Is there some way to export just certain columns of the library, for example just artist and name. By default it seems to export everything between heaven and earth, and that makes the XML file too large.

You can reduce the file amount by exporting a playlist in MPL format (=XML), but field selection in not possible with MPL.

You could try exporting in ASCII delimited format with the "Only Visible Fields" option selected. Make a playlist of the files and customize the view before exporting.

I tried the MC XML Export plug-in again now after a long time. It seems to still work with MC11.1, but the initial stage when it gathers info can be extremely slow if the library contains a lot of view schemes and playlists (especially smartlists). I recommend making a cloned copy of the library with the Library Manager and removing all unnecessary things before using the plug-in.

The links in the thread are obsolete, but the plug-in is available in the Interface Plug-ins category here: http://accessories.jrmediacenter.com/mediacenter/accessories.php

Jagge,

I guess you are trying to make it smaller because of the Streampad service. Did you notice the reply I posted in your "Client that doesn't require installation" thread: http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=28560.msg216356#msg216356 ?

That system really works and you don't need a third party service. Though, the Remote Server interface is designed to be light so it is only plain text and doesn't look nice. Has anyone posted a screenshot of the Streampad?

Correct. I'll have to look into that. Thanks!

Since I had lyrics in 9888 songs and I never needed those for anything, I decided to delete the lyrics. As a result of this the exported XML file was 10MB smaller. Seems that the lyrics were almost a third of the original XML file.
