Trying to play any m4a file crashes MC
« on: February 04, 2006, 03:29:48 pm »

I am not sure when this quit working for me, hence I am not filing it under the latest release bug thread. I am on 11.1.113 and when I try to play any m4a file MC thinks for about 10 seconds and then posts a fatal error:

AppName: media center.exe    AppVer: 11.1.113.0    ModName: playbackeng.dll
ModVer: 11.1.216.0    Offset: 00032f50
I tried to capture info with debugging, but on restartint MC it looks like the log gets cleared and re-

I have the file type for m4a selected under the file types and I have 3ivx D4 4.5.1 installed
I have also verified that the songs play under iTunes.

Any ideas are greatly appreciated

To see debug log after a crash, do not restart MC. Find the log file here:

C:\Documents and Settings\<your user name>\Application Data\J River\Media Center 11\Log.txt

You can also find "Previous Log.txt", in case you restarted MC.

Is this log the one after crash? If it is, then it suggests that the crash occurred when trying to play the file using Quicktime.   DirectShow failed to play it.

Maybe some of your 3ivx filters were messed up. Try reinstalling 3ivx.

Thanks Yaobing,
I unistalled and reinstalled the 3ivx and it did not fix the problem, however, I have been just upgrading MC over the top of itself as new versions get posted so I decided to uninstalled MC and re-installed with version 1.1.113  and it is working now, playing m4a's with no issues.
