Total Recorder And MC 11.1xxx
« on: May 23, 2006, 07:15:22 pm »

I downloaded the demo of total recorder

and i bought a music file from itunes

Listening to: 'Like Her' from 'Solace' by 'Mandalay' on Media Center 11

It is a m4p file

since there is no tools in MC to convert this file to something work able like wav or mp3

when i load total recorder, then press play on MC11 there is no sound.

if i press play on MC11 and then load up total recorder and press record it works fine

any ideas how to fix that?

since i have the demo of total recorder i get embeded noise (there way to make someone pay for it).

is there another product that is freeware that a user can use to record and convert.

what i want to do is take this song cut out the parts i hate and keep the parts i like.

Ok

Well I found Easy Hi-Q Recorder It works better, Perfect actually

http://www.roemersoftware.com/

And then i used Media Centers Media Editor And I Cut The Ofending Parts Out.

Media Center Media Editor worked very well cutting out parts when you zoom in on the wave, Not to bad of a job you can almost not hear where it was cut maybe some more blending.

I did buy it $29.95

I kind of wish J river would work on the media editor a bit, i would pay a bit extra for more and better editor tools.

I've been using Total Recorder for years (literally).  Matter of fact, I think I may've bought it around the time I bought my first copy of MC (8.something, I think).  I don't know much about Easy Hi-Q but Total Recorder has been a great product for me.  The interface always throws me a little if it's been a while since I used it last but it installs a sound driver and grabs the sound at the driver level as opposed to doing any conversion, giving the same quality as the decoder. Dunno if Easy Hi-Q does the same but I'll give it a try.

I admit that I've never tried it with MC so I guess I'll have to give your sequence a try and, if it fails for me, I'll contact them with a bug report.

An alternative would be to burn the track as an audio CD with iTunes and then rip in wave format with MC.

I found when looking It has won more awards, and better reviews than total recorder has received.

I've found that if you install Total Recorder without it's special audio driver (an option during install), it works much better in general -- I've run into a lot of glitches when the TR audio drivers are installed.

Audacity is free, cross-platform, and works quite well for most simple audio editing tasks.  I use it extensively on my Macs at work.  At home on my Windows boxes, I own a copy of SoundForge 7, so I just use that.

KingSparta: I'll definitely check out Easy Hi-Q.  Thanks for the pointer!

chaznet: I may be in the minority but I've never had a problem with the TR drivers.  Sometimes I forget that they're there and direct audio around them instead of through them but it's always been an error on my part.
