Duplicates again
« on: April 11, 2006, 02:31:09 pm »

Every now and again I do a search for duplicates and find the following has happened

Screenshot

My housemates find the same thing now and then.

Only answer seems to be kill the library and start again.
Doing a search of this board shows a few people have had this problem...
Would be nice if MC had a way to check it's database for duplicates,
and then do something inteligent about it...

I have a similar problem with doing an 'Import Library' operation - about 200 files wind up with duplicates.

I also have a similar duplicates problem with synchronizing to my MP3 player (a Samsung YH-J70, which is a generic UMS device). Every time I sync, if I come back at another time or click 'Recheck Sync', there are always some files it wants to re-transfer to the player, making duplicates on there. Hopefully .171 will sort this out.

EDIT (23.15GMT, 4/11): Here's a temporary solution; make a Smartlist with the following criteria:
- Duplicates [Name],[Artist],[Album],[File Path]
- No Duplicates [Name],[Artist],[Album,[File Path]

This will find the duplicate files, then remove one instance of each, leaving you with all duplicate file entries - which can then be deleted from the library.
