Comment Tag not written to File
« on: May 15, 2006, 02:18:29 am »

I have been updating my the comments tag recently.
It is marked as ‘store in file tags (if possible)’ in the options / library - settings.

Still I find that some files are not updated.
Also not after using the option ‘update tags from library’ from the library tools.

Can anybody tell what could cause this? A tag version that does not support the comments tag?
How can I fix this? Can I upgrade to another tag version?
If so, how can I identify the files that are not storing the comments in the file??

How do you know it works for you?
What test did you do? And how do you know it succeeded?

KingSparta,

can you please do following test:
take a song (preferable mp3) where the comments tag is not empty.
Please check the 'Date Modified' tag.
Now, make the comment field empty and update the tag.
Please check the 'Date Modified' again.
Did it change??

My files (some or all) only change the date modified field if I replace the comments with some string, not when I make it empty.

For some files I would like it to be empty and change date modified!!

Any feedback would be appreciated   ;)

Inside MC: Action Window > File Properties > File Type Info  (shows the physical file tags)

Outside MC: The most basic (and usually very slow) option is to open an mp3 file with Notepad a check the first few lines. A better option is to use some freeware tagging program. Personally, I like Mp3Tag. The current beta version can show and edit also MC's custom tags (this works properly if you use the "ID3v2.3 ISO-8859-1" tagging option in Mp3tag).

This works for me. I can't reproduce the problem. (MC11.1.183)

Dutch Peter

You may want to check your files and folders are not write protected.

you can also go to the plug-in manager and select

Input, MP3 Plug-In

and configure MC to write ID3 tags

Thnx Guys,

it probably was because of read only settings for some files.

It is somewhat strange because I only had the problem when I tried emptying the comment field. Putting in another string worked fine.

Anyway, I think I can move ahead. If not I will post again.
