Wide screen, flat-panel monitors.
« on: March 10, 2006, 02:22:21 am »

Nice one gentlemen, thank you for the tips.

You know what they say; once you go widescreen, you'll never go back!  ;D
I picked up a 21" Gateway FPD2185W several weeks ago.  1680 x 1050 is sweet!

And Marko--
Check out the Samsung flat panel monitors.  I highly recommend them.
--Fastest refresh rate
--Excellent Contrast
--Good brightness.
--Very sharp (almost too sharp).
And cheap (relatively).  Samsung makes the Dell monitors and I believe also the Gateway.  Until Sony/Viewsonic/Phillips come down in cost, you can get two Samsungs for the same price.  Twin monitors!  As Galley says, once you go widescreen you'll never go back, but once you've had twins, well, the world will look forever different.

I've still not purchased that much needed HDD yet either.
Yesterday, I was looking @ an AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+ and began muttering to the wife about building a new PC. She told me to behave myself, but I don't give up that easy ;)

I think I'll try and hold off on the HDD purchase for now and get the monitor instead. I can enjoy that while I'm sorting the rest out :)

A while ago, I read a rave review for a reasonably priced 19" widescreen from BenQ that really caught my eye. Can't remember where I read it, nor can I remember the model No., and yes, I do know what ctrl+d does ;) ::)

Whatever I wind up with needs to be able to handle games now, and well into the future...
I've never considered dual monitors before. Probably because I've never felt I needed them. A bit like those 'multiple desktop' apps, which I've also never 'got'

What is it that I don't know I'm missing?

I walked into a store yesterday completely minding my
own business aiming to buy some paper...
and I accidently walked past a Sony X-Black/Brite Screen....

My whole view on Flat TFT's has been changed!

It's the first screen I've seen which more than matches my Trinitron CRT
screen.  I also want the whole big widescreen thing.

Think I'm gonna be working over time soon!

been using this thing a few days now...

hooked up using the DVI input...

games are wonderful....

I've only got a few extra pixels vertically, but the extra width is really neat.

took me a few hours to remember about the 'clear type' setting in display properties!! up to that point, I was a little apprehensive/disappointed with how things were looking. what a difference that setting makes.

couple of screenies?
MC in 'full album' view (all other viewschemes have dupes filtered out)

need to go track down some new wallpaper images, meantime, this class, suitably cropped photo of my granddaughter will do nicely. (the crop is the only post-edit performed on the photo)

Out of the box, the only gripe I had was the brightness. Had me diving for the Ray-Bans! Tweaked a little and that's fine now. Quite a pleasurable 'first time' tft experience. No degauze 'thump' when turning it on is nice too :)

They look nice in the picture!

My budgets fairly low at the moment, but I'm going for an upgrade.

Costco has a 60" (!!!) Sony LCD for $2800 this week.  Looked great sitting next to the Sony and Pioneer plasmas.  Had multiple DVI-I (2 Gig channels) and conventional PC VGA connections as well as the DPMI and what-not.

Sceptre is the current price/performance leader in panels 32" and larger.
