Otto's Earning His keep
« on: July 20, 2006, 11:30:02 am »

Despite having to nudge him a bit yesterday to get my firewire drive full of tracks imported, Otto was up bright and early this morning, ready to go to work.  Starting up my computer, I left the firewire drive off and started up MC, just to see.  With the drive off, Otto notes the firewire tracks as missing, but still in the library.  Connect the drive, DON'T restart MC, and Otto sets right to work, reconnecting the firewire tracks in a matter of like 30 seconds.  Task manager shows no great burden for this, certainly nothing like opening up windows explorer and navigating to the folder.  Good on you Otto!

Isn't otto for importing stuff that isn't in the library yet ?

Isn't what you described there, just windows making the HD available to MC.

Otto zigs and zags.

He keeps your disk and library in-step.

Rename some files in a watch folder using Windows Explorer.  Come to MC a minute later.  It'll be in step again.

Indeed he does. I had a few that were tagged incorrectly.
Made a change outside MC.
Within 30 seconds the change was reflected in MC.
Renamed the file outside MC.
Same, within 30 seconds the filename had been updated in MC.

I like it.

Er, this isn't working for me.  Going to an external converter, I converted 2 tracks from WAV to FLAC, keeping everything else the same.  Otto lost them, and when I did a check folder, Otto fixed the broken links and removed them from the library.

Is any of this reconnecting dependent on artist/album directory structure?
