Sequence for adding to MC11
« on: August 13, 2006, 02:23:12 pm »

I have MC11 working properly on LAN. Files are on shared 500G Hard Drive
Have converted all WAV files that were originally on the HD to APE and all the tags updated.
I am now ready to start adding WAV files to MC for tagging & conversion to APE. These are all cleaned up LP files so internet filling of library is not an issue. When in final location on 500 they will be in several levels of all ready existing folders.

My plan is to copy files from C:\ to a work folder on the 500 then work on tagging & file conversion from the 500, then let MC put them in the proper folders.

Is that the proper sequence? Are there issues with this procedure?

That is probably about what I would do given the likely volume of files.

1)  Put the new files in a working/temp directory.
2)  Batch convert all to APE.
3)  Build a View Scheme or Smartlist using the [filename (path)] field.  Say if your data is on D:\Temp\xxx.wav then [filename (path)]=[D:\Temp\" would only grab those files (and those in any subdirectories of temp).
4)  Clean up the tags.  Do a 'remove all tags', 'add tags from library' step if you want to clean out any garbage.  Then 'rename from tags' to move to their final destination.
