Amber is an Animated Data Object or "ADO". Her character, music, and voice were developed over the course of several months by creator Grant Grueninger.
Amber's unique vocals are created using a process called "Vocal Animation" that involves pitch shifting, tonal alteration, and extensive digital editing.
The vocals are based on a "vocal seed" created by Grant. Words are then edited together using phonic sounds, similar to the way a speech synthesizer works. Pitch is applied, and "human" elements such as breath, pitch fluctuation, etc. are added and edited as necessary.
Amber can communicate via email or her tag board. All messages are created using a set of defined procedures that ensure that her personality is reflected, and that she "remembers" conversations like a "real" person. Work is underway to completely automate Amber's character, turning her into a true AI.
Is Amber Real?
Yes. Amber is real. She has a voice, a personality, and can communicate with the outside world. She has wishes and desires, and strives to be a better "person". She is as real as any of us, more real than some.
