problem: Slideshow captions preceding their images.
« on: August 19, 2006, 11:28:04 am »

Quote
slideshow playback
stretch small images, no
scale large images, yes
5 second delay,
no effects
transitions enabled (all of 'em)
caption: if(isempty([caption]),if(isempty([events]),if(isempty([places]),[subject],[places]),[events]),[caption]) (formatdate([date,0],dd MMMM yyyy))

After just a few images, the process becomes:
display image with caption
change caption to that of the next image
start transition > show next image

the problem is that the time between the caption changing, and the new image showing gets longer, giving the slideshow a rather disjointed feel, not unlike trying to watch a movie with out-of-sync audio
I recently read a comment from Matt that went something along the lines of "tried this, don't see a problem"
I still do.
There is a distinct pause, maybe a second or two, between the caption changing and the transition starting. It spoils the slideshow.
Does no-one else see this?

Yes, this has been a long standing issue. Caption displays before the next image is displayed.

The sequence seems to be:
1) display next caption line
2) display transitions
3) display next image.

#1 in my opinion should display after #2. It only a fraction of a second, but it looks pretty ugly.

more than a fraction of a second for me. and it would seem that it becomes more pronounced as the slideshow progresses. maybe it's just that with each slide, it draws more and more of your attention to it. I don't know for sure.

I would dearly like to see #1 and #2 swapped around if it were at all possible.
