I have several CD's that seem to me to have recording problems.

These few when sound is "busy,complicated, up tempo, etc" take on a "rasping texture" almost as if the speakers or sound system can't keep up.
One that I have tried on all my speaker/amp configurations is a CBS Masterworks not a cheap knock-off.

1) They are classical with a lot of orchestral strings etc.

2) I am playing them over higher end speakers (JM Lab Electra)/ Arcam AVR fed from CD player or from computer. Have also tried them on a system with tube Amp and speakers nearly as good as the Electras, and with a different set of CD players.

Since they all have the distortion (breakdown) I'm wondering if some CD's or their recording engeneers are just screwed-up?

My first thought is clipping, but given the kit you have, you might have thought of this already.

Does DSP Studio->Output Format->Overflow Protection->Clip Protection

make any difference ?

I tried that, as well as doing selective gain changes. That don't fix it.

From an LP I have a copy of what was supposed to be the original analog from which one of these was remastered. Cleaned it up with DC6 and the noisy parts just don't sound that way.  I'm inclined to think it was a recording engineer messing with the gain.
