Just curious if Media Center 11. still allows you to edit music yourself (make cuts, add sounds etc.)?  I only wanted to download the program specifically for that reason but I don't see it listed as a feature.  It was a feature previously.

Can anyone shed some light??

media editor is part of MC11

Tools > Advanced Tools > Media Editor

there should also be a link under "Start" > All Programs > J river Media Center

You also can get to it by selecting a file, Right Click > Send To > Send To (External) > Media Editor

Used this the other day as it happens to try and trim and mp3 track to get the first 30s of the track to use as a ringtone for my phone.

I have to say, I'm a computer techie / nerd and EXTREMELY computer literate and I could not work out how to use this properly to do this simple task.

After 30 mins I gave up.

Cut seemed to instead of cutting a section, cut whatever was not selected.
There was no obvious way I could see to click somewhere on the track and play from that point.
Could not see an indicator of where in the track the song was currently at.

Any many other things.

Maybe I'm completely wrong but it sure confused the hell out of me which means my friends (ie Mr/Mrs Lay Person) will not be able to figure this out at all.

This is one of the parts of MC that is really weak, it is also one of the options that attracted me to Media Jukebox years ago.

This is one part of MJ & MC that has not changed since it's creation.

I would like to see Enhancements to Media Editor but I don't think JR thinks this part of MC has any priority, and it is probably true. You do not have many requests for enhancements to media editor or bug reports.

Currently In MC12 (A Version Not Currently Announced By JRiver) Media Editor Has Issues. And Had Issues In MJ8, MC9, MC10, MC11 Also That Has Never Been Corrected.

For one if you look at the top of media editor you will see the current file name, but when you go to save the file name Media Editor asks you for a file name, Like it has no idea what file it just loaded, and also the bug that you mentioned.

There are many things that can be enhanced and fixed in ME that has not been.

It's not a priroity when there are many better alternatives out there, i have used wavlab since forever for this sort of job.

Audacity might be worth checking out if you like free.

I too had a "learning curve" with Media Editor, but now I love it, and wish other editors' GUIs were more like it.  I use it for 95% of the editing I do, mostly losing audience noise from live tracks.  The remainder I do in Audacity, which is a great little program and a triumph of open source, IMO.  I would not buy an editor unless you had a specific need, such as layering steinbergs, etc.

The beauty of an internal editor is keeping tabs on your tracks as you go.  This, IMO, is the major appeal of a comprehensive suite such as MC:

--DOWNLOAD MANAGER
--FILE CONVERTER
--etc etc etc

I really like Goldwave for entry to mid level edting FWIW.
