MC12 Scheduler
« on: September 24, 2006, 09:56:28 am »

How many of you use the shedule feature inside MC12?  It is a very useful feature.  But with this new version it seems to have been reworked so that MC has to be in memory for scheduled tasks to work.

What are your thoughts on this?  Have you gotten it to work properly?

Thanks

I recorded the HDTV Vikings loss today.  Sigh.

When you minimize MC, it unloads the skin, database, and anything else it can to save resources.  It's a fairly complex system, and it makes MC have a very small footprint when used in the background.

I do not use Scheduler, but do leave MC running all the time for Tivo Server.  To me it is a very well behaved program (as compared to Firefox which takes more and more memory and never seems to let go).

I would use it if I had a use for it.

At the moment I don't have a use, until it can do something useful like rleoad the library off the library server at a specified time (hint hint  ;))

I gotta say, I was rooting for "Da Bears."  I think the Vikes are overrated.  Plus the whole "boat" thing....

But I still would prefer it is there was a seperate app for the scheduler like there was.  Kind of like a batch file; how it can spawn other processes.

If we are to use MC itself as the scheduler, sa opposed to previous versions, how to we lauch it at startup?  I can't see such as option.  Since it now takes on the role of scheduler it would be nice if MC had the option to autmatically start on boot, and start minimized.

Just a few thoughts

It's called "Media Server" mode.  It allows UPnP, TiVo, Library Server, Scheduling, etc.

Options > General > Shell Options > Run Media Server on Windows startup

I've done that (read above) and that mode doesn't seem to work right for this; there is no spawning of MC12 at the scheduled time.  That may be how it is supposed to work.  But it doesn't.

It doesn't need to spawn MC 12.  "Media Server" is the same process but with the database, UI, and anything else possible unloaded.

Well maybe that wasn't the right term then.  But I do know that I've tried setting up a test event and exiting MC, leaving the media server open and the schreduled event never started playing.  I did the same thing but leaving MC open and exiting the media server and the scheduled event played.

BTW nice dog.   ;D

Any chance we could have some more presets built in.
I'd like to see a "set volume" preset, so that i can listen to my music quietly at bed time and have it wake me up loud in the morning.
Scheduled "Force tag info to files". If not, then the ability to save presets would be good.

Also the ability to "duplicate" tasks, so that you only have to tweak existing ones would be nice.
As would the ability to “Enable”/”Disable” by double clicking on an entry, like we used to be able to.

Been using MC for a while. I just loaded the beta last week because I use the scheduler function a lot and was hoping for some added features. Unfortunately, it seems like some functionality is now gone:
For example, Start recording. Now the only recording option seems to be TV recording.

If this is not going to be added back, is there a workaround to record an item from the playlist at a pre-set time? I also liked that you could pick the recording source.

Start MC and Shut Down were nice options too.
