Is there a way to skip BPM calculation when running analyze audio?  I've got another program that I want to use to compute BPM, and unfortunately it won't do it automatically if the tag is already there.  If it's possible, it would be nice not to have to delete it immediately after analyzing everything.

You can disable the "Store in file tags" field specific option. MC will then store the BPM info only in the library. Later on you can use the "Update Library (from tags)" tool if you want to import the BMP info that your other program calculated.

Tools > Options > Library & Folders > Standard Library Fields > BPM (click it) > Edit Field > Store in file tags (when possible)

Ok - do you know if this will still allow portable devices to read the replay gain info tho?

The BPM field is a separate ID3 tag in MP3 files. It should not have any connection with the other fields that MC writes. In any case the BPM info is available in the library data after the files are analyzed.

If your portable is an iPod it does not read physical file tags at all. All file data is stored in the iPod database file. MC keeps this database up-to-date.

Other portables are not likely to understand the replay gain file tags.
