CD Database Import
« on: November 25, 2006, 08:10:02 pm »

I have a good deal of CD's as part of my MC 11.1 database and I want to import them into version 12 is there a way to do this. I have created the same view scheme in version 12 as I did in 11 but I have not read all of the disks in version 12 as I did when I was setting it up in version 11. Do I have to put in each CD into the drive and collect all of the information again into version 12 or can I just import this information from 11.1?

Why don't you just restore an MC11.1 library backup file in MC12?

It would include all database info you have in MC11.1 including the view schemes and the CD database.

File > Library > Backup / Restore Library...

They aren't compatible, however, MC12 will automatically convert it as it restores an MC11 backup to MC12.

You can always restore an earlier backup to a newer version of MC, but you can't go backwards, i.e.: you can't restore an MC12 backup to MC11.

Your MC11 backups will not be affected as MC12 will put the newly converted library in it's own MC12 Library Backups folder.
