Specify Backup Dir & Media Icon
« on: November 25, 2006, 01:01:44 am »

Howdy all,
Just wondering how I specify what folder to save my backup's to?
Sure I remember seeing this option somewhere but I cant remember where.

I want to make sure my backup's are happening to a different drive from my main library so if I have to nuke my Install dir my backup's are fine.

Thanks

(ps. while I'm posting - what is the name of the field that shows the icon for media? ie different ones for audio video and image?)

I don't know if you CAN change the "default" backup directory in MC -- I've never seen a setting for this.  You can change the folder when you actually do a backup, however.  Did you try this?  I'm not sure if it will "remember" this new folder or not, but it might be worth a try.

Regarding the icon question, there is no "tag" that shows this -- it's a "column" selection in the track view (right click on a column and select "Columns.")  The three choices are  "Image (small thumbnail)," "Image (large thumbnail)," and "Image (icon)."  The "Image (icon)" is the one that shows the different icons depending on media type.

I also would like to know about the backup folder question. When I back up the library from my main system to my network location, I can then select restore and it defaults to the location I backed up to. However, if I go to one of my other machines on the network and do a restore, I always have to specify the network location to do the restore as it always defaults to the documents and settings location. It would be nice if it would remember where the last restore came from so it wouldn't have to be specified again.

As you said, MC remembers the last backup location when restoring. Just make one dummy backup into your backup folder on each PC.

2 nice workarounds, thanks. I can't do the backup one though because I don't give write access to the other machines. The registry one will work though. Wish MC did it by itself though.
