Stripping Vocals From MP3s
« on: September 03, 2002, 04:59:28 pm »

Is it possible to strip vocals from MP3s, and if so what programs will do it correctly and efficiently?

Jared

I dont have an answer, but you might take a look at Syntrilliums user forum here which describes a technique for doing this, and how to do it in their Cool Edit software. Be aware though, that most of the real pros in this forum tell people that it plain cannot be done.

Stripping vocals out of music is not as easy a process as you might think.  The problem is that the vocal and the music frequencies overlap to a certain degree, so stripping out the frequencies that contain the vocals will also strip out part of the music.  As for software, I'm not familiar with any, but I'm sure it exists.  Maybe try doing a search on Google.

Jared,

I made it a couple of years ago for my friend's little doughter, using a software (sorry I forgot the name of it) presentd as the best available at this time : the results was so puny that I left it and went to rent special Karaoke-CD's (where they strip the vocals at the recording).

But as Rob suggested, you can search Google with Karaoke as keyword.

Noticed my link above went crazy - it looked OK when I previewed the post. Anyway, if you cant find it, I was referring to the first post in the Tips and Tricks forum at http://forums.syntrillium.com

Most strippers around here use instrumental music for stripping.
