DFX/DSP Settings
« on: September 03, 2002, 03:18:47 pm »

I just dowloaded the DFX plugin. Astoundingly pleasant results.

In an earlier thread kandarohidharmapala (08-27-2002 05:47:51 A.M.) mentioned he had experimented widely with settings. I'd love to have the benefit of expert users advice on settings for both DFX/DSP alone/together/whatever.

If DSP alone can produce the depth, warmth and brightness that DFX seems to add to otherwise flat 128 MP3s I'd like to know how to get there from here.

For reference I listen mostly to jazz on the following system:

CPU: Intel Pentium 4 1702 MHz MMX
MOBO: Gigabyte GA-81RX
Memory: Total - 261 MB, Free - 88 MB
OS: Microsoft Windows XP  Workstation 5.1  (Build 2600)
SB Audigy MP3
Analog output to Harman Kardon HK3370 driving
Paradigm Atom speakers via
Monster Cables
Headphones: Grado SR 60

Internet Explorer: 6.0.2600.0000
ComCtl32.dll: 6.00.2600.0000
Shlwapi.dll: 6.00.2600.0000
Shell32.dll: 6.00.2600.0000
wnaspi32.dll: 4.57 (1008) , ASPI for Win32 (95/NT) DLL, Copyright © 1989-1997 Adaptec, Inc.
Aspi32.sys: 4.57 (1008)

I've been peckin' and pokin' at this for several   months now and I'm at a point where I'm really pleased with the sound especially considering the modest $$$ invested in the audio.

Best bet, just mess with the sliders until it sounds good to you. MJs DSP is not going to have as much adjustment as DFX. You can use the EQ at same time as DSP and give it a little more fine tuning that way. Possibly this week dsp_dee may release a DSP plug-in using MJs native data handling. Not a winamp plug-in that works in MJ like DFX. This may be something to wait for.
