Policy on DVD thumbnails?
« on: January 04, 2007, 04:40:02 pm »

How do you all gather thumbnails for your movies?  I go to Amazon and get the largest and closest graphic I can, download it, and then crop it down to the best possible size and re-save.

What about television or series DVDs?  This happens with disc sets for music as well.  Do most people just use the same thumbnail?  For example, take South Park, Simpsons, and Firefly.  South Park and Simpsons pretty much exclusively provide the cover and that's about it.  Firefly has a separate case for each of the four DVDs which has its own cover art.  In that case, I am currently using the separate graphics since Amazon happened to have them already but I could also use the same thumbnail.  Do some add a number to the thumbnail indicating disc number?

How do you save the DVDs?  I have been saving as Simpsons 1.2--1 indicating the season and the 2 indicating disc 2.  This system is simple and clean and allows good sorting.  I used to use additional sub folders but it seems like one folder with all my TV DVDs works fine now.  I follow (buy all seasons of) a few TV shows: Simpsons, South Park, & Malcolm In The Middle.  I feel bad that they only have one season released for MITM and they don't plan on releasing more yet because of licensing issues.  I am afraid to start watching Family Guy because I might get hooked on that too.  I also have Firefly 1, Flintstones 1, Jetsons 1, Roseanne 1,2,3,4, Laguna Beach 1,2.  Does anyone else have any particularly good shows to recommend?  While I like a lot, I can't see spending even more money on other seasons so I try to avoid picking up more shows.  Laguna Beach is my sister's and Roseanne is my mom's.  I don't really understand Laguna Beach but Roseanne is alright.

Best source of DVD thumbnails I have been able to find is DVDEmpire. They consistently have high-res thumbs for both front and back covers. If you find a better source, please let us know.

Best TV series by a very wide margin are Sopranos and 24.
