Can't convert m4a files
« on: June 19, 2006, 12:44:42 am »

Trying to use MC's Convert Files tool to convert Apple Lossless m4a files to MP3. I get this obscure error:

"Failed to play <filename>.m4a. You may not have installed on your computer DirectShow filters for decoding the type of file you are trying to play."

I have no probs playing back the file in question.

Any ideas?

We rely on DirectShow filters to do conversion.

I am not sure if you can find DirectShow filters that will handle Apple Lossless format.

As far as I know there is no DirectShow filter that can handle m4p files. m4p files can only be played in MC using Quicktime engine, and can not be converted.

Hi

I know I am stupid but I can't work out how to use mp4 splitter and FFdshow as posted in an other thread.

Could you please please please add the converstion of m4a to MC12.

It may stop me going mad.

Thanks

MC11.1 already supports m4a conversion. This will not change in MC12.

What have you tried and how did it not work? Any error messages?

To use Mp4 Splitter:

1.  Down load it from here (both Nov 25 2006, and March 4, 2006 versions are OK) and unzip to any folder, for example, C:\Downloaded DirectShow Filters\mp4splitter_20060304.

2. Register it with regsvr32:
Start -> Run, type the following command:

regsvr32 "C:\Downloaded DirectShow Filters\mp4splitter_20060304\Release Unicode\Mp4Splitter.ax"

and click OK.

For FFDShow, download from here and run the excutable to install it.

There is nothing more you need to do. You should be able to convert m4a other formats.

Thanks for that works perfectly, (Tip) I just installed FFDShow and did not look at any of the settings just installed it. After a couple of months of looking I've got it working Yes!.

Just my luck though, I also updated my nero 7 (18/09/06 update) today and guess what they have added, an audio file converter and it converts m4a to mp3.

Oh well that is the way it goes.

Thanks again and still looking forward to getting my hands on MC 12.

If you have trouble with http://cutka.szm.sk  for for fddshow

You can get the latest version here, I'd recommend getting a _stable_ one.

http://ffdshow.da.cx/

Worked great, just do the default install.
