REQ: skin?
« on: January 15, 2007, 11:51:12 pm »

My sister really likes Media Center.  She asked me, however, if there was a skin that had hearts for the ratings.  Currently, she uses Noire but uses the skin effects (one of the greatest features for any program) to change its color to pink but I would like to put a request out for someone to perhaps modify the Noire skin to use hearts instead of stars and it could even be changed to a light or dark pink but that could be applied later in the effects.

She would be very appreciative.  Thanks a lot!

Why not have a play yourself?
It's very easy.  Just find the ratings graphic, and modify it.
Find a heart image, scale it (Maybe get one of a pack of playing cards, from
google or something), replace the stars.
It may take a few attempts, but then you'll get exactly
what you're looking for =)

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.  I checked the Noire skin folder and don't see any images for ratings.

Sorry.  I see it now!  I need to go to MegaSkins.  THANKS!  She'll love it.

That is amazing.  I have a question, though.  Why doesn't the pink background from your png show up?  Does MC automatically crop at certain pixels to pick the various states?

Is J River considering modifying the ActionWindow images so the minimize, maximize, or close, etc, have mouse over actions?  I see that the images have 3 states but they are all the same.

If you look in the Main.Xml file you'll find each feature has a transparent colour
although this is not strictly necassery with PNG as they have an Alpha channel

That makes sense.  I did take a look at the xml file because I needed to change the name.  It seems like it could be quite simple to modify the included .png files with a photo editor--even by just applying a general colorizer and the entire appearance of MC could be altered.  That's a handy feature!  I also love the built in skin effects that let any user quickly change the general appearance.

I feel obligated to post a few more images.  My sister loved the heart ratings so much that I went ahead and made a few more changes.  Here are a few images that anyone can use if interested.

2 More Ratings Image--remember to remove "2" from the second filename:

A play and pause image--to continue the heart theme:

I can't believe how amazingly configurable Media Center's skins are--just because every image is a simple, easy to access .png file!  Thanks for easy access to skins!
