Which button guaranteed PLAY???
« on: September 01, 2002, 10:10:33 am »

I am currently working on creating macros for my system using my IR remote.

In the macro, I add a command to start MJ if it's not started already.

But how do I start playing guaranteed?  If MJ is not playing PLAY starts it, but if it's already playing then PLAY pauses it.

I think there should be distinct play and pause buttons.  Without discrete commands, it's hard to automate.  Toggle commands are very bad for automation, since it's impossible to know the current state.

I agree.  JRiver did some fixing on this, by providing the VolumeSet option.  But ToggleShuffle and ContinuousShuffle are very painful to use, because of the unknown state issue.

Have you tried executing

mjextman.exe /Command Play

I'm not in front of an MJ machine at the moment, but I think that should work.

That PLAY command always starts play, at the beginning of the current track no matter where it was playing previously.  That would work, but I need to be able to get a guaranteed play action from an IR remote.  So there must be a button on the MJ player to do it.
