G-Force 3.6 Crashes MC12 (at least for me)
« on: February 05, 2007, 10:22:19 am »

FYI, my install of MC 12 (12.0.157) crashes if I try to use G-Force 3.6 in Theater View.  The problem is consistent and repeatable, and happens anytime you exit Theater View with G-Force selected as the Display option.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled both G-Force 3.6 and MC 12, but the problem persists.

G-Force 3.5.7 seems to play nicely with MC 12, so I have reverted to that version for now.

BTW, MC 12 is a terrific product - keep up the good work...

Yep.  I've confirmed this on a few machines, and reported it on the G-Force forum over here:
http://www.soundspectrum-forums.com/viewtopic.php?t=1577&start=15

You can work around the problem by turning off OpenGL acceleration in G-Force.  As long as you have a relatively recent CPU, this shouldn't really affect performance or quality (mine's actually somewhat improved on my nVidia cards as the "flickering" when entering and exiting fullscreen mode is gone).  You can do this by adding "nOGL=1" to the Global Preferences.txt file at: C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\SoundSpectrum\G-Force

I haven't gotten around to submitting an official bug report via email, but if you want, that's really the best way to report problems to SoundSpectrum (they don't monitor the forums as closely as JRiver does).  If you want to do this, use this web form:

http://www.soundspectrum.com/support/contact.html

Then, please use this format:

(2) Copy and paste the content below into a new bug report posting. If you don't include all the below information, it will be very hard for us to make any progress in fixing the issue!

If you are experiencing a Windows crash, then please submit a crash report:

Thanks for the help, Glynor!

Using "nOGL=1" definitely gets around the issue.  I submitted a bug report to Soundspectrum using the template you provided.

BTW, I think the new SoftSkies visualizer may have the same problem, so I put the "nOGL=1" setting in its preferences file as well.

Thanks again.
