Removing "Inside File" cover art
« on: February 05, 2007, 01:13:38 pm »

I can't find my original post so I'm sorry I'm posting it again:

I had some files that had the cover art Inside File. I wanted to use artist - album.jpg instead. I selected the files, did a remove cover art, permanently, and then copied the copy art from the clipboard. I took the files to my other computer and imported the files. For some reason, some of the files had the cover art as artist - album.jpg but some still had Inside File. Why didn't the Inside File cover arts get removed the first time?

Read-only files or tagging disabled in Options > General?

Can you reproduce it with a simple test? (look at Action Window > Tag > Format for a detailed run-down of what's in the tag, including any image)

Files are not read-only and updating tags is available.

Easily reproduced. I took one file and removed the cover art from it. I usually have "Next to file (artist - album.jpg)" but checked the "Store images in tags also" option. I did a quick find of the cover art and the image was put inside the file. The Image File tag said "Inside File" but I couldn't see where it was in the Format tag like you said:

I unchecked the "Store images in tags also" option. I then said to remove the cover art and answered yes to remove it from the hard disk too. The Image field was now blank and the Format tag showed the exact same information as above. Just to verify the image was still inside the file, I used various tools like iTunes, WMP, etc. to load that one song. I thought there might be a chance they were downloading the image from the Internet but to verify that, I loaded one of the other songs that I knew didn't have Inside File and no cover art was shown in iTunes and the tags within.

So basically I am unable to remove cover art from inside the file.

The Image File tag said "Inside File" but I couldn't see where it was in the Format tag like you said...

It's the "APIC" tag.

It looks like MC can remove an embedded image only if this option is enabled.

I found another issue. If an embedded image is added outside MC (for example with MC on another PC) the "Update Library (from tags)" tool cannot make the image visible inside MC. If the filename is changed and the same file is imported as a new file the image displays normally inside MC.

I think I am experiencing the same problem kinda now.

I have just done a "update library (from tags)" and a build thumbnail. But some of the files are still not showing any image even if "Image file" says "inside file". I also cannot extract any image from these, and get no image on play. Is this issue beeing attended?

Also, is there a way to find all images which has not buildt thumbnail in MC? Would come in handy when updating those who dont have any image... The [Image file] field don't always do enough. Maybe a [Thumbnail] field could be added?

Possibly the files have lost the embedded images outside the current MC library and the Image File field has wrong values. Probably you need to remove the current field values (right-click > Cover Art > Remove Cover Art) and readd the cover art images.

If the physical file tags are corrupted for some reason you may need to remove and reapply all file tags.

EDIT

I mean, if the problem is not this:

I assumed it would eather way end to that, AlexB :-\

But since i have no way of sorting out these files, it will get a bit time consuming. A guess, would say around 2-300 of 22k would have this problem. Takes some time to scroll through entire library.

The last request in my post, would help me greatly in this matter... *hint, hint*

Just tried to put a new image on the "corrupt ones" which did not work.

A remove art, then new image worked on 3 out of 6. A redo on the last 3 updated those as well. Strange inconsistens...
