Sorting alphabatically is wrong!?
« on: March 04, 2007, 01:52:30 am »

Only recently is noticed that some artist were not in good alphabatically order:

I get first:

2PAC
3rd Force
10CC
2002

I would say that it should go like this:

10CC
2002
2PAC
3rd Force

any idea why it works this way?

Hi 4bye
Because the numbers 2 and 3 come before 10 and 20.  ;)
Imagine the numbers 2,3 looking 02,03 and you can see better
Cheers

You know, I remember complaining about this in other programs being the other way around.  It is good that it sorts that way.

As far as your musical taste, I also have 10cc (they're pretty good).  What about 38 Special?  You didn't go that far down!  2Pac, not a fan of (dislike most rap).  Never heard of 3rd Force and 2002.  Any songs I should try for those two bands?

I can go with that but I would say 10(CC) goes before 2P(AC)

But I can live with that as long as it's thought about. ;D

I would expect numeric fields to sort in numeric order.

I would expect alpha fields to sort in alpha order (I'm not saying this is good)

It looks like they are trying to give the best of both worlds.  It's kind of hard to do.  Where do you draw the line, just on the leading positions or everywhere? As an example:
Album A - Track 1
Album A - Track 10
Album A - Track 2

If this was the field your are sorting, you would never expect it to sort numerically.  So it can get confusing if the numeric sort is there when the leading positions are numeric.

I had a CD store and got a lot of CD's myself. Rap isn't my favorite too. But I put everything with name on my HD's and have it there for an occasion.

I like 3rd Force though. I have most albums and they are all great. It's a mix of smooth jazz, new age like, you just have to listen some tracks. If you like that try Acoustic Alchemy too.
2002 is New Age music. I recently found out myself.

I think J River should add another top level forum category called Media.  Then, have forums for:
1) Big Label Music Artists
2) Independent Artists
3) Movies
4) Video Clips & Commercials
5) Podcasts & Miscellaneous

That way, we could discuss the content that we store in MC, too.  It would help us broaden our musical (etc) tastes.
