MP3 encoded wav plays back slowed down
« on: August 28, 2002, 09:00:39 am »

I have latest Media Jukebox (ver.8.0.356) and latest MP3 encoder plug in (ver. 2.0.50).

CPU: AMD Athlon 1528 MHz MMX
Memory: Total - 1048 MB, Free - 702 MB
OS: Microsoft Windows XP  Workstation 5.1  (Build 2600)

Internet Explorer: 6.0.2600.0000
ComCtl32.dll: 6.00.2600.0000
Shlwapi.dll: 6.00.2600.0000
Shell32.dll: 6.00.2600.0000
wnaspi32.dll: Internal ASPI Layer

Converting wav to mp3 (using VBR or not) extended a 4:00 song to 4:22 and makes it sound like it is running slower than normal. I searched the forum and found similar problems listed. I did try using external encoder and selected lame.exe (no VBR) and that appears to have worked, but I would prefer to see if there is a fix for MP3 VBR.

Weaves,

FYI: The Lame encoder is probably the best MP3'r out there.

Try Lame in VBR using

--alt-preset standard

(VBR: ~192 kbs), see what happens.

I have a similar problem with a few songs. But allmost all of my archive (about 50gb, don't know the numbers) is encoding using VBR (and lame, some of them with --r3mix and the newer once using --alt-preset standard).
I don't think VBR is the reason for the slow down. Maybe some frame-metadata is not correct? Well... maybe I should check them with vbrfix...
