I just began the task of scanning all my CD covers.  I noticed that as I was putting the pics as folder.jpg in the directory where the .mp3's are the new cover art is automatically displaying in the visualizations.  Is this a new feature of one of the last builds or have I just never noticed it before?  I like it.  It save me several tedious steps.

It's new.  If there is a single image in the same directory as the file(s) during import, it'll use it for the image.

David, there's really no reason to scan your CD covers unless there's not one you can find online.  The "Folder.jpg" image that Windows XP uses must be 200 x 200.  AllMusic.com and many other sites display the artwork at this size, so all you have to do is right-click the image and choose "save as..."  You can click on the "artist info" button in mY and it will take you to that artist's AllMusic page!

The cover art that I've been downloading is often poor (IMHO) so I'm scanning it all at 350 x 350.  Looks great in the my visualizations especially when I run it full screen on the TV.  I've never heard about a res restriction for XP.  I have bitmaps in some folders that are 500|PLS| x 500|PLS| that I initially got from buy.com renamed as folder.jpg and the XP folder displays the image.  Do you mean within MS Media Player 8 or something?

I read with interest your conversation, and I tried to apply it.

I have some cover art in the same folder as the song's album. The pictures are always called folder.jpg.

I downloaded and installed MJ 8.0.359, and then I import music (without cleaning the library). However, MJ has not detected the album pictures.

What do I have to do? Do I have to neceserally clean the library?

I just did as you are doing.  You didn't say but I guess that you are using Windows XP just as I am.  I was scanning while at the same time playing songs from MJ.  A song began to play for which I had just finished putting the cover art in it's folder when it automatically displayed.  Previously the image was in the MJ cover art folder and saved in the tag.  

However,  I have noticed that a few directories that now have cover art in them olny display the default MJ image.  I haven't had time to look into it though.

I deleted the cover art from the directory where MJ had placed a copy but have not cleared out any of the cover art saved in the tags though.

So I guess that is the answer.  

As a test, I just ripped 4 new CD's which created the directories upon ripping.  Because they had no cover art in them then I get the default MJ image for visualizations.

On one other, I created the directory first and then ripped.  It shows the actual cover art.

Apparently the images can be of any size in XP.  Windows Media Player creates them at 200 x 200.  I agree, sometime some of the artwork you find online is "not too good".

I figured out why my new scans "automatically" appeared for me but did not for you.

I already had poor scans in the directory named folder.jpg  I forgot that I had cleared the library sometime earlier.  When I rebuilt the library the new build pointed to the existing cover art in the folders.  As I scanned the new cover art and renamed it back as folder.jpg the existing link in the database was preserved and just pulled up the new cover art.

If you look at the image file propeties, it will now say linked to external file 'file.jpg'

I am confused.  I am not able to get my cover art to display.

I cut the .jpg from the Cover Art folder for one album.  I pasted it into the directy for that album.  I deleted the album from my library, and reimported it.  When I go to properties for that album, it does not show the .jpg file, and it still has the link listed below the area for the picture as the location from before I delete the files from my library.

I tried this two ways, once with the original file name, and once with the folder renamed to folder.jpg.  I am using win2k, and it sounded like the discussions about the naming of the file to folder.jpg were only for users of xp.  Any ideas?
