This one is wierd.

Last night, just before midnight, I was loading my iPod with tune. Everything was going perfectly until the system clock hit exactly midnight. At that point the iPod transfer stopped (more like stalled) and MC became unresponsive.

I killed MC then tried to re-start it. When it was just about to load the default library, it told me that it wanted to "Upgrade my Library" (just like when you upgrade from MC 11.1 to 12). I said "NO" and then MC told me that another user was using the library and asked if I wanted to load from a library backup. BTW: I'm the only user on the machine and have admin rights.

At that point, I decided I was too tired to fight this battle and shut down Vista.

This morning, when I fired up the computer, I noticed that the Media Center 12 logo in the Start Menu had a Windows Vista Security logo in front of it. To see the logo I'm talking about go to Control Panel and look at the "Security" icon.

Then I remembered that I had installed MC 12 on this new Vista machine exactly 14 days ago. The "Search for Update" feature was set to the default 14 days. Is it possible that at midnight, MC decided to check for an update, found one but some new and wonderful Vista security "feature" (I use the term very loosely here) made MC 12 crash?

Sorry, I didn't have logging enabled at that time...

No. I disabled "Search for Update".

I wouldn't really want to try again. I had to restore the library from a backup after all of that (along with 5 hours of thumbnailing....).
