New Feature: Hiding the serial number?
« on: April 02, 2007, 10:04:08 am »

Hi.

I'm using Mc12 in my store and I noticed that some employee show interest in this program. I trust them but I'm not sure, if they won't "steal" it. I mean they need only my serial and then they can make 8 restores ( I've them left). It would be cool if there is an option with a password which makes it possible to hide the key. So you enter a password...you see the key...... and when you want to hide it..... enter the password which makes the key visible and then it disappears.

So that registration code under Help is the same one that someone can use to restore MC?  That is impressive that they show it there!  I haven't ever seen a program that would just show the serial number you purchased to any user!  Most products hide it and you have to dig around the registry to maybe find it.

Edit: here's an idea.  Offer a way to disable a users serial number.  This way, a user could go to the MC site and disable their serial number.  Then, with their password, they could re-enable it...offer a way to only give one restore until the password is required again.

I like having my serial available just in case...but I keep it safe anyway.

if they used the serial number, any resulting communication so generated would be sent to the email address registered with jriver.
ie. you would know about it, unless you also give your employees access to your inbox?

if they try to use the buybutton system to change your registered email address, they would need to enter your password before the system would allow them to do so, and presumably, you have not given them access to your password, so, in theory, you've nothing to worry about.

I tend to believe "They" are watching me all the time, every place I go they are there. I wish they would stop following me.

The other day I found a small camera in the bathroom fan. It was activated by the fan and light switch, and the power supply was spliced into the fan power cord. Two small holes were drilled into the plastic cover. one for the camera one was directly opposite from it i think to make it look more normal.

I'm on to them.

omg.  Now what kind of people do you work with?!

I was actually informed via a personal message (LOL) that it was a joke.  It seems like something you'd want to announce publicly.  It was a good story.  He must've thought it through thoroughly.
