grouping of a list field
« on: May 05, 2007, 06:38:36 am »

its a while i asked this, somewhere in 11,1.
i have a library field which lists names. when i make a grouping of them i also get the names that are in the same list but dont belong in the grouping. is there a way now to just get the names that belong grouping?

i had the idea that the match any/match all would help. but it doesnt. and actually i cant see what it does, can somebody tell?

thanks
gab

edit: i does seem to work in panes.

i would be suprised if somebody understood that question. so to make myself clearer here a better explanation.

i have a list field called artiesten.
when grouped i get this in panes:

now in the same view but not panes:
i choose the same M as in the first image and choose the artiesten not grouped (second column)

i get this

i would expect that the panes view and choosing the selections would give me the same results.

The panes have special handling to accomodate this case.  The standard handling for a pane is to filter down the list of files, and then build the next pane with those results.  That approach doesn't give the results you're hoping for. (since a "C" artist can occur in a list after filtering to files that also have "M" artists)

Perhaps we could extend the special handling to the other area you pointed out.

i understand how it works, and i see the logic behind it. but at the moment you make a grouping this logic does not make sence (can you say that  ). i would expect after a grouping the results to be like they are in the pane view.

just repeating myself trying to get the 'perhaps' out of this sentence:  ;)

Build 228 and later will do grouping for graphical browsing just like it does for the panes.

Let us know how it works out.
