OMG: Have I screwed my tags up?
« on: May 20, 2007, 12:20:08 pm »

Experimented today with MCs copy tag facility.
Made a new tag called Composers and set it as a delimited list. Copied my composer tags into there.
Now have a major problem.

The old composer tag appears to only have the first composer in each field. So most U2 tracks have "Adam Clayton" rather than "Adam Clayton; Bono; Larry Mullen, Jr.; The Edge", for example.
Tag&Rename and MC are both showing just this initial composer. WMP11 still shows the tag correctly.

Is there any way at all I can restore the tags to what WMP11 is showing? I have a backup of the database on another disk but it is a bit older so will be a bit of a nightmare to restore.

Any help appreciated!

(Note, I am in this mess because of my stupidity and not because of any fault with MC. Feel free to shift this post or delete it. I just thought this was my best place to get a quick answer - I am in a bit of a panic  :'()

WMP11 may show tags from its database. You could try to open a file with a hex editor and check what it really contains. If the format is MP3 you should find the ID3v2 tags in the beginning of the file.

Also, possibly the instructions in this thread can help: http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=40670.0

Excellent! Thanks for the quick response: have just tried it and (thanks to your instructions) it works like a charm.
I think mp3tag is the last tool I need to get my library cleaned up.  ;D

I am one happy bunny.
