MP3 Plug In problems
« on: August 21, 2002, 06:37:18 am »

Sorry if this has been covered before. Just trying out ver 8 (it's great!)and downloaded the mp3 plug in and I get this message and then it crashes MJ. I suspect it may be something else on my computer that is causing it as it has happened in Cdex as well when I tried to update lame.
"Lame has caused an error in Lame.exe, Lame will now close."

Is there something in the registry or windows folder that I can check to see what i should have?
I am using Windows ME
Any help appreciated.
regards,
Geoff

Don't know, but try these.

Check your settings for where files are saved and where the temp files are saved.  Check disk space there as well.

Reboot.

Hi Jim,
Done that. I have 11 gig of disc space available. Directories are C:\Music\ & C:\Music\Temp
Any other ideas?  Other programs on my computer using lame are Cdex,EAC. Also have Easy Cd Creator,Direct cd.
Could it be an Me problem and maybe I need to re-install me?.
Is there anything in the registry or Windows\system folder I could check?
Anyone else had similar problems under Win ME?

thanks,
Geoff

Hi Jim,
Sorry to persist but I've run out of ideas how to fix this. Any suggestions appreciated.
I have done a complete format and clean installation of Windows ME and re-installed MJ and still get the same message when I try to encode anything.
I have posted my fault log below in the hope someone might understand what's happening:
I have not yet updated Aspi , don't know if that effects anything.
regards,
Geoff

If LAME is the problem, you might want to try another release. You can get binaries here:
http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=551

You might need to set it up as an external encoder to try this in MJ.
Settings>Options>Encoding>External Encoder

Click the advanced tab, point to wherever you put the new version of LAME. For the parameters, you could copy and paste this:
%IN %OUT --alt-preset extreme

It does look like your ASPI needs updating. This seems unlikely to be related to your current problem, but you can get the update for your version of Windows at:
http://www.adaptec.com/worldwide/support/drivers_by_product.html?sess=no&cat=%2fProduct%2fASPI-4.70&prodkey=ASPI-4.70

I'm not familiar with 'Centaur' processor designation. Has LAME worked for you in the past?

Are you using the Lame plug-in available on the encoder plug-in page?It almost sounds like you're trying to go to Lame thru an external option.

Easiest way to find out if you have the internal version of Lame is Settings > Plug-in Manager > Encoders. Don't see it, click on the link and it will take you to the right page. Select whatever you want, and it will install for you.

Hi Machinehead,
No, I have the internal JRiver plug ins, so I'm not referring to the external lame which I haven't even installed yet.
I'm at a loss as to what's happening here.

Bump.
I have just tried encoding on another computer also on Win ME, no problems!
The only differences are that this one has Nero on it instead of EZ CD 5 and has not had a program called Sonicart (automated radio production,,which includes a lame encoder)installed on it.  I have removed Sonicart from my home machine, but I don't know what files may be left behind in system etc so will contact author etc. I will try removing EZ CD from it as well, although I can't see that it should be the problem?

To answer Phelt's Question re processor- I am running a Cyrix 667 processor on a pc133 board from pcchips.
I will download the latest aspi just in case.
I have been having trouble with the lame mp3 encoder for some time, both internally in MJ and in other apps - like CDex when I try and use it externally it crashes, but is oke with the version that is downloaded with the program. Also can't get the lame .dll to work with a program called Sonicart (babyfishmouth software)
This problem continues even after I've done a clean installation of Win ME.
I am starting wonder if it could be caused by out of date drivers? Can anyone suggest if this could be the cause and where I should look first?
Regards,
Geoff
