Playing Yahoo streaming music
« on: April 08, 2007, 01:18:35 pm »

Hi everyone,

I have a problem I'm hoping you can help with. I use a web client (html page) to play my yahoo streaming music, but I can't seem to do the same with MC. Here is a link to a sample playlist:
http://63.250.215.234/p.svt?action=init&f=1&si=396500505&sids=&csi=396500047&gsi=&sk=flq0rsp0q50eq&ai=0&lp=&l=840&c=3147777&u=1220636976&r=2&t&sg=1119917008&p=1&m=467&d=0&b=64&z=ms.asx

You'll notice that you can open that in Windows Media Player and it works just fine, but trying to open that url with MC12 and it hangs.

Let me know if you have any luck! :)
Happy Easter,
-Franco

I would also like an answer to this from those of you in the know.

AND for the love of GAWD...why can't we get a plugin to show what we're listening to on Yahoo messenger? It's like Yahoo has made it so the only way you can use THAT feature is to use THEIR music software. *shaking head at yahoo* Silly, Yahoo. If their messenger program didn't trample all over Windows Live Messenger, I'd send them a strongly worded message instructing them to stick their strong-arm tactics you-know-where, AND a hyperlink to Media Center (which I've used since v8 was brand new) so they'd know what GREAT software can do. ;)

That link is a strange beast.

It's an ASX playlist that points to 50 ASF files.

Each ASF files has multiple levels of redirection before getting to a real media file.

Next public build of Media Center should be able to play the link, but it will take a little while to parse.  This is because MC tries to add true media links (50 in this case) to Playing Now instead of just one virtual link like WMP.

I've seen that link population explosion and I've always wondered at that.  I customarily delete all but one link and it never affects the playback, AFAICT.  Click on 1 web link and get 5-10 urls splattered all over PN, all but 1 of them seemingly irrelevant--what's up with that?
