iPOD syncing question
« on: July 03, 2007, 09:54:59 am »

I'm probably missing something obvious here but . .
In MC 12 I find a different options screen for syncing than in 11.  Been using various MC versions to sync to my iPOD for years.

The sync list in 12 only shows playlists; representing about 20% of my total library files.
I can't find sync mode choices such as sync all files and playlists.
If I have Delete from Handheld files Not On Sync List the Detail says its going to delete all my non-playlist files.
How do I sync my entire MC 12 library and playlists to my iPOD?

Am I missing something or is there a problem?  I guess I could make a playlist of the whole library as a work around?

Ken

That's what I did, made a dynamic playlist with all my audio files, except songs with a 1 star rating...
But I was indeed also confused on how to get all my songs onto my ipod..

...not that I want it simple and limited as iTunes  ;D

We removed the "entire library" sync option because not many people used it.  It's also messy when you have videos, images, and audio.

To sync an entire media type, just make a smartlist to include that media type, and sync with that smartlist.

ah, smartlist.  I made a playlist of the entire library and did a sync and it wiped out everything but the non-library playlists.  I'll try the smart list approach.  A friendly all files or all music files and playlists selection would be nice.

Hey Matt,

Can't make the Smartlist approach work.  I created a Smartlist that does indeed contain all the files in that library.  When I go to sync the details list says that it is going to delete 2/3 of the stuff and leave 1011 files in the On Device and In Queue catagories, with several thousand in the Delete on Sync catagory.

I had been working around this by going back to MC 11, restoring the library from MC 12 which is what I have been keep current, then syncing from 11, which works fine.

But now when did the restore in 11 (after upgrading 12 to .279), it says I'm trying to restore too new a database and I should upgrade to 12.

What's happening here? Help!

Ken

I'm getting only about half the music using the Smartlist approach.  For a 20 gig 4G iPod, I tried to specify 18,000 MB and got a blank display.  I tried lower numbers and continued to get a blank display.

Bendra, Did you check the box for the smartlist? new playlists don't get synced unless you mark the box after making it; or at least smartlists require that.  I missed that first time around.

This is the smartlist

Media Type: Audio; (Mot Genre: Soundtrack; (Mot Genre: Christmas; Not Genre: alternative; ;;;; Sort: Random; Limit: advanced; (Mo Duplicates: [Name]; Limit: 18000 megabytes

I dragged the smartlist box down into the synch files box.

Build 299 and later adds a simple way to pick an entire media type to sync in Options > Handheld.
