Confirmed. Same problem has existed for ages with the equivalent Theater View option also.

This is by design.  You're already looking at it in Playing Now, so a jump to display view would be distracting more often than not.  Double-click the display to jump manually.

I would have to disagree. I have actually wondered about the same thing myself, just never got around to ask you. I would prefer that when I start a movie or TV it would open full screen (display view) at once.

that i actually came to this was because my wife asked why sometimes when she doubleclicked an image it opened full screen, and sometimes it doesnt. this is even more clear when a second instance of playing now is open, which does not show the pip.

but also when just opening mc with playing now, and there are some videoos or images there, i would expect mc to open them fullscreen when i hit the play button on my remote or keyboard, when i said in options play> Display view (if has display), and not to get of the couche to double click in the pip.

The wife trump card.  Maybe we should change it.

Just thought I'd note that I see it Matt's way.  Why would you want it to jump when starting something from INSIDE Playing Now?

Of course.... I don't use it that way, so I don't care much personally which way it ends up.

Great! Don't forget the same problem exists with the equivalent Theater View option.

Thanks.

Going to stick my oar in here...

I have to agree with Matt, I have Jump on Play set to Display View (always) in Theater View and Display View (if has display) in Standard View... but when I'm messing around in Playing Now, I don't want it jumping anywhere, thanks v much. Either in Mini, Standard or Theater. It would make using Playing Now a complete pain in the bum.

Anyway, I think I detected a wee bit of sarcasm in Matt's post I wouldn't get too excited.

Yes, same here....  ;D

Seriously though, and in the case of Theater View, why would you ever NOT want a movie or picture slide show to jump to Display View? What's the point?? For music I can understand the frustration of this but that's why "Display View (if has display)" was invented.... If only it would work in Playing Now!

Hmm yes I agree that in Theater View it would be nice to jump to Display View from Playing Now only when it's Video or Images. However, it doesn't fit with the umpteen alternative scenarios where you wouldn't want that to happen. I'm not all too bothered about pressing 'Left' and selecting 'Big Screen' once I've pressed play.

I see your point though. How about a new option in the context menu - "Play (Big Screen)"?

When I suggested it doesn't "fit with the umpteen alternative scenarios" I meant the behaviour could cause some confusion if MC started to guess how you want to view your media depending purely on type. Some of the time the content of the media (and not just the type) dictates how you want to view it, so unless J River want to further extend the Jump On Play option, I'd prefer the current option to behave as it does now, i.e. consistently.

There are some examples of how I use playing now with Images and Video;

1. I want to flick through the name of each image in playing now, and show a few of them while I'm at it in the viewing area.
2. I have music videos in playing now, and want to play another track.
3. I send all episodes of a certain TV show to playing now, and want to scan through each episode in the list using the smaller viewing area to find a particular episode.

All the above would be mucked up if MC decided to switch to Big Screen/Display View without my asking.

i just want to point out that i did not start this thread. it was a reply in the bugs tread. because that was what i thought it was. i also detected the bit of sarcasm, disqualifying my reply in the discussion.
i think both sides have good points, for me it is not a big item.
