auto size columns does not behave as expected
« on: August 22, 2007, 03:55:54 pm »

I have "auto size columns" on and "allow auto size to cut off long values" off.

I find that for fields with strings of medium to long length, autosize always seems to come up a bit short and I need to manually widen the column to see the complete content.

A quick way to observe this behavior is to create a column for Filename. You will see that the column almost never auto-sizes wide enought to observe the full path/filename.

This has been a long standing issue (as far back in MC history as I can remember).

I thought I would report the issue because I am constantly manually resizing columns and I was hoping you could make an adjustment to the auto size feature.

Thanks.

P.S. Windows Explorer also exhibits this issue, but unlike with JRiver, it would be a lost cause to report this to Microsoft.  :)

It'll be fixed next build.

Auto-sizing columns is more involved than you might think because there's sizing to the screen, sizing to the data, sizing to the 100th percentile, sizing to the 85th percentile, locked columns, possible errors from sampling instead of doing a brute force calculation, etc.
