MJ "Not Responding"

I am experiencing a problem with MJ...when ever I eject a CD or click on the "CD, DVD & Handheld" selection on the lefthand menu, I get a popup window saying "Analyzing devices" and MJ freezes up...if I am patient and wait 2 to 5 minutes, both clear up and I am able to use MJ.

What gives??

Forgot to mention...I am using Windows XP Pro on a Dell Latitude 810 laptop with 8.0.348.

Try changing between IDE and ASPI under settings/options/device settings.  Something about the hardware isn't right.
