Down-Sampling MP3s When Burning CD
« on: August 30, 2007, 12:02:28 pm »

MMJB allowed me to down-sample mp3 files to a rate of my choice during the burn-to-CD process, but leave the original MP3s untouched. It even offered a threshold above which an MP3 would be down-sampled.

I have hundreds of MP3 oldies at various bitrates that I would like to burn onto a CD at 128 Kps and without changing the file on the HD. Can I do this with MC12?

Yes,

In the burn options select "Burn Data CD", "Convert to MP3" and open "Convert Options". In there you can select the "Force conversion with mp3 files of higher bitrates" option.

However, I wouldn't recommend that. It is called transcoding and the resulting quality will be reduced if the files are already in MP3 format. The transcoded files will have lower quality than files that are directly encoded from a lossless source using the same bitrate. CDs are not expensive.

Right you are, but I doubt the person to whom I'm sending these oldies will ever know the difference  ;)

Since I'll need 2 CDs anyway, I'll just forget the resampling.

Thanks for your reply!
