MC12 won't import .mp4 (Quicktime) video file
« on: September 24, 2007, 10:27:35 pm »

I am trying to import a .mp4 (Quicktime) video file into Media Center 12, so that I can trasfer it over to my iPod Classic.  So far I have had no problems importing any other types of files, but for some reason I can't import this .mp4 file.  This is the error message that I keep getting.

Probable problem in the mp4 file. Does it play ok with another media player?

What happens if you try directly play the file in MC (by dragging the file to the player, or by right-clicking it in the Windows Explorer)?

mp4 files are handled with Quicktime engine by default. You will need to have Quicktime installed on your computer. Alternatively you can use DirectShow for its playback. To do that, you must make sure you have DirectShow filters that can handle it, and make sure you configure MC to use DirectShow method. If neither methods work, file itself may be to blame. As RJM suggested, try it with another player - Windows Media Player, or Quicktime Player/iTunes. Will it play?
