The new rename files in 318 is great.  It really helps to provide quick information on what the file updates will look like.  However, it could still be much better.  Ideally, there would be an active checkbox that would show only changed structures.  So, if just the filename was going to be changed and the folders were the same, even if directory is not checked for changing, then it would only list the previous and new file name.  Now, I have to scroll or hover the field.

It needs to be case-insensitive here!

Now under action, I only notice Move.  Are there any other possibilities here?  Maybe this should be a drop down?  Probably not but maybe.

Fill properties from filename could probably benefit very much from something like this.  Ideally, it should show the differences between tags in the files and library.

At this point so far I find it more of a distraction than a useful feature.

I like DC's idea in the build thread. When I first came across the dialog, I had to resize the first column and then resize the second column, and even after that because the directories are displayed too as they should be (Artist\Album), it was just too long for one line to see what was changing. What would be better is to have 2 lines per each change so the New field is directly underneath the Original field. That way you can easily see what is going to change between the two.

I'll agree, for the moment it doesnt help since my file names and dirs are very long.
I could imagine something like replacing the first directories (which are unchanged) by three dots e.g.
.../mydir/filename.mp3
and of course a resizeable window.

Leave it to you guys to have a solution already. The one thing I haven't been able to check though is depending on the resolution you're at, I'm not sure if a long filename in the tooltip is a problem.

I already figured the tooltip out.  I'm just thinking it's an extra step to see if the changes are good or bad.  Plus, I always have to carefully read the Artist folder, etc., making sure it's identical in case I accidentally changed the artist.  Maybe simply inserting <no change> in place for C:/folders/blah would be enough and then keeping the filename if it's changed.

Just replace the drive/folder structure with <no change> if it isn't changing.
