Multi-zone play not unsyncing?
« on: October 28, 2007, 09:56:26 am »

I have three zones set up on one soundcard.  Zone 1 is using the FRONT jacks, Zone 2 the SIDE jacks and Zone 3, the REAR jacks.  I successfully had 3 seperate songs playing in each zone.  I tried the Synchronize Zone 2 to Zone 3 and it worked great, Zone 2 was now playing Zone 3's song.  However, it won't stop playing Zone 3's song anymore.  I've shutdown both MC and the MC Server, but when I start them back up, Zone 3's music still plays in Zone 2, along with Zone 2's music.

How can I turn the synchronization off?

P.S. I've also tried rebooting, but to no avail.

Media Center shows / controls one zone at a time.  They are independent, so stopping one does not stop another.

Ways to pick / configure zones:
Menu > Player > Playback Options
Ctrl+T to toggle zones
Right click the DSP Studio button in the player info area at the top of the program

I'm not having problems stopping the zones.  I use CTRL-T to switch zones and then stop them.  However, if I reboot my PC, relaunch MC12, go to Zone 3, Press Play, the music plays in both Zone 2 and Zone 3.  I only want it to play in Zone 3.  If I switch to Zone 2, I MC12 shows no songs playing, but there is sound going to both zones.  I've double checked my Output settings and they still are pointed to the proper jacks that I originally setup.  If I do start a song in Zone 2, I get both songs playing through Zone 2's outputs.

I'm using .329 and saw that .358 is posted.  I will uninstall .329 and try .358 and see if that helps.

Tried installing .358 and notice the same thing.  Also notice that if I add additional zones, their music plays out of Zone 2 as well.  So basically all music plays out of Zone 2, which was synchronized only with Zone 3, but none of Zone 2's music plays in any other zone?

I think your soundcard driver is being too smart.

Some drivers do this.  If they get data to only the rear channels, they go "I'll help out and route this everywhere else".

Except that it worked great until I tried synchronizing...As soon as I synchronize any zone to Zone 2, the other zones music now plays in Zone 2 all the time.  I tried this with Zone 6 as well.  Zone 6 and Zone 2 used to be seperate.  Synchronize Zone 2 to Zone 6, BAM, now everytime I try to play something in Zone 6, it comes out Zone 2 as well.  If I ever get this working again, I'll be sure never to use the synchronize feature.

Synchronize is a red herring.  Something else changed, because all sync does is start playback in another zone -- nothing more.

Sorry I don't know what that "something else" is.
