I have "Update for external changes" unchecked and yet when I right click on an artist folder and import into Media Center it does "update for external changes" for any of the existing albums.   So, how do I stop MC from updating for external changes when importing from outside of MC?

I'd have thought that thats by design, as you've specifically asked it to look at all the files in that folder?
Try monitoring the folder with auto-import instead I would think

If by design, I'd like it changed to respect my wishes not to update for external changes

Monitoring the folders is no good - as soon as I rip, I copy the folders from my rip PC onto my raid server and then I immediately import the files ready for processing - I don't want to wait an unspecified time for the software to notice that there are some new files which need processing...

It is by design.

If you manually force an import, tags will be re-read.  Why is that a problem?

I suppose it's because I don't view shell import as a "forced" re-import, but more as a "look for new files and import" - in exactly the same was as if you were to re-run auto-import on your collection folder...

I guess I need to change my way of thinking.
