Media Center, Lyrics, WMA files

I've searched and can't find the answer. Are lyrics stored in the WMA files or separately?

MC will read and write lyrics into the WMA file itself (i.e. in the tag).

I believe that the WMA format also supports have lyrics with timing codes so that they can be shown along with the music, ala karaoke, but I don't know of any software or databases that make this particularly helpful. Although it would be kinda cool to have all the lyrics available and timed to the music.
