Anyone having troubles on DVD playback from USB drives in Vista?
tombert:
Installed MC in Vista. Initially no videos played (not even avi or divx) unless I installed Cole2k codec packs. Now I'am bothering with DVD playback.
Simply MC states "Waiting" and nothing happens any more. Tried to switch through all Video Decoders but nothing helped.
Then I tried Windows Media Player which gave the message that DVD does not support my Region. Somehow stupid cause they are VOB files on harddisc region free.
I searched in the internet and found someone who recommended to install XP codes called DECCHECK. So after restart - oh wonder - the DVD playback was fine.
Next time restart the DVD playback failed again with "Waiting" ...
Then I wondered about the file MC is showing in "Playing Now": its ending is ..\video_ts.dvd
I clicked on "Locate on external" but MC could not find the file. This is happending with all my ripped DVDs - the message MC reports is "The file ... does not exist"
Now I'am curious If the "... does not exist" might be the troublemaker of my playback problem or if this is just another issue of Vista.
Any suggestions welcome, thx for help.

*.dvd is a virtual filename. Don't worry that it can't be found on disk.
You might try EVR, VMR, etc. in DVD options to see if one works better.
Let us know what you find.
tombert:
I already tried all settings through.
The thing I found is, that when I copy the dvd folder to a local hard disc they play perfectly. The problem exists only with my USB disc.
So for the moment I got a workaround and If I find something I let you know of course.
JohnT:
I just copied a ripped dvd to an iPod acting as a drive, and it played ok via USB. What kind of a setup do you have? Can you play it with windows media player? If not, it's possible the Microsoft DVD navigator filter is not allowing playback from that USB device.
tombert:
You're right - it doesnt play with Microsoft either.
But I think I searched the whole google and help files for this filter. Pleae give me a hint where I can find this navigation filter.
thx
