Can MJ not change file Icon
« on: May 21, 2003, 03:52:51 pm »

For different files (such as .wav, .mp3, .ape) I use
different icons and define different file types.
As soon as MJ plays them, it change the file type
to MediaJukebox.File. It is pretty annoying to have
same icon for different types of files. If I try to
change icons, MJ changes it back again.

I can not believe that it is windows doing it.
Can someone from J River answer how I can get around
this. I use ONLY Media Jukebox to play everything.
I think that if filetype is not changed by MJ, icos
would not change either. I am running MJ8 on XP.
Does MC9 behave the same?

Please please respond.

If you set MJ as the default player for audio files in Tools/Options/File Associations, this will happen. MJ isn't the only program that does this. For example, if you do the same thing in Winamp, all the file types are changed to Winamp Media File.

The way around it is to deselect all of the file types in MJ, again in Tools/Options/File Associations, and then associate them manually in Windows using Windows Explorer, then Tools/Folder Options/File Types. Or you can download a free program called ContextEdit (you can find it with a Google search) that makes it a little easier to do.

Also note I'm using Win98, so some things maybe slightly different if you're using another version of Windows.
